I bought this mainly for business presentations and projecting my laptop screen and have to say I am very pleased with the performance of this product. The unit is very light and compact and the brightness is more than enough even in a fairly bright room. When I was researching units I got confused about the difference between native resolution and input resolution. Basically I thought that if the native resolution was 800x600 then I would have to change my laptop resolution to match it. This is NOT the case. I have left my laptop resolution at 1600 x 1200 and there's no problem in making out the writing.

I nearly returned this when I first got it because I couldn't seem to focus it using the focusing lever on the top of the unit. It was only by accident that I discovered that focusing is done by manually turning the lens hood rather than using the lever (I think the lever is just for zoom). Duh! It would have been nice if there was a lens cap included but apart from that, top marks for a great little unit! I can't comment on how this is for movies but for business presentations and for the portability factor its ideal.

p.s. for the user that gave this a one star because they didn't think it came with a UK plug - have a look in the packaging again - its hidden under the cardboard base!

After much research on different forums I found out that the HD600X-LV is rated as the best 3D and HD projector for the price on the market. I purchased this for my husband on his last birthday as a present and it certainly doesn't disappoint. He has it set up with his Xbox and the Optoma 3D-XL Adapter and plays 3D gaming on it mainly Black Ops online & more recently Gears Of War 3, and watches films on just the plain white wall and from around 6 meters away he get about a 160" wide image from around 6 meters away. We recently got Sky 3D installed and I watched the Gnomeo and Juliet with the kids and it blew me away as I had never seen a 3D Movie!! The only problem we had was that the glasses kept on falling off the kids as they are quite big. But overall he is thoroughly chuffed with his present. Well done Optoma!

I have just upgraded from a Sanyo Z5 (720p) LCD projector to this Optoma HD230x (Full HD 1080p) DLP version. The picture quality, brightness and colour that this projector offers for the price tag is an absolute steal. I was a little concerned that the 2300 lumens would be too bright compared to the Z5, which is 1100 lumens, but it adds to a far greater viewing experience. You can watch movies with a couple of sidelights on, or in complete darkness. I did not find the brightness to be an issue, nor the rainbow effect.
I am quite surprised at the difference in image quality between 720p and 1080p. I did not think the full HD would be much of an improvement, but it makes quite a difference when you play a 1080p Blu-ray disc. The HD230x has two hdmi v1.3 (Deep Colour) inputs, and again, I have noticed quite a difference. The colour is rich and vibrant with no colour bleed what so ever.
I am having trouble finding issues with the performance of this projector. The fan noise is also very quite in ecco mode. It is truly amazing value for money. I'm sure you could spend four, or even six times as much on a higher spec machine, but I cannot believe that the picture would be four to six times better.
The only criticisms I have is that it only comes with a one-year warranty, (the Z5 came with a three year), and every time you zoom the image you have to re-focus. It does not hold the focus like on the Z5. Other than these two points, I am very happy.
